Part of Sumatra was burned because of the early and dry season caused by El Nino weather phenomenon. In 2007,there were 1,218 hot spots again caused by El Nino.Kk,now many people must think what is El Nino.El Niño-Southern Oscillation (abbrieviated as ENSO and commonly called simply El Niño), is an intensification of monthly or seasonal fluctuations in the air pressure difference between Tahiti and Darwin. Almost twice as many hot spots have been detected in Sumatra as at the same time last year and the year before. 2,248 hot spots were detected by the satellite on Tuesday, compared to 1,229 hot spots last year and 1,218 in 2007. The last bad haze year for Singapore was in 2006, when the drier weather conditions from a moderate E1 Nino saw an increase in forest clearing activity. That year, the hot stop counted in Sumatra hit 12,014 and our country, Singapore, experienced the worst haze ever in a decade.

Man and his Enviroment

Protecting our environment is important. Since the development of science and technology has improved for the past few decades, our environment had been harmed by our doings. Every day the amount of electricity wasted is unbelievable. Now people are more aware of the harming of our environment. That is why Earthlings are willing to participate in activities like Earth Hour, Earth Day and so on and so forth. Though, there are still who still don't care about what is happening around them. They don't change their usual routine to a more energy saving one. Seeing everything we are doing to Mother Earth, I am seriously afraid that my life wouldn't last long. Why can't people think for themselves? If they don't, why can't they spare a thought for others? For example, deforestation. Man has destroyed forests to clear land for building places. They cut down trees or burn them, resulting in a lot of smoke being produced and also haze. Then there's pollution-air, water, land etc. Air is polluted when factories produce smoke with carbon dioxide which leads to the 'greenhouse effect' and contributes to global warming. When there are oil spills or people throw litter into the sea, the water is polluted. Likewise for land pollution, waste is not disposed properly. Back to global warming, it's mainly the reason why the weather's so warm nowadays. The heat has also caused ice in the north and south poles to melt and sea levels to rise. Plus, the ozone layer is getting thinner by the days.

Racial Harmony Day
Thursday, July 23, 2009

Today's topic is on Racial Harmony Day!!!]
For this year's celebration, because of the H1N1.
we cant celebrate at the hall. But Mr Alan Tan help us to take the video of the performances video
that we had actually plan to watch in the hall.
the first part of the video was about a wedding runway by our teachers.
There were four type of wedding.
Chinese wedding: Mr Ben Choo & Miss Guo(Mdm Chang Chih Wei was the mother. haha)
Malay wedding : Mr Mus & Miss Rahimah
Indian wedding : Mr Ramesh & a indian teacher
Eurasian wedding : Miss Lim and Mr Justin Soh (Mr martin Tan was the one saying are u willing to marry...blah blah blah and so on.)
We know that when the eurasian get marry they kissed.
but our teachers was a flying kiss.(haha, so funny)
I like the chinese wedding the most, I like the tea ceremony because i like the culture very much.
After that, we watched a true story about a Malay couple who came to Singapore with no relative. They did not had any friends except during their work. But, they had a very kind neighbour: Mrs Teo. She watered and took care of their plants and allowed the couple's friend to stay at her place until they come back. Mrs Teo also gave angbaos to them at special occasions. They treated each other as parent and children relationship. And there was this phrase: "An old neighbour is better than a distant relative." I know my neighbour just so-so. They are a indian family. My grandma is like enemy with them cuz they always do or say something bad to my grandma. Their youngest child study in our school too. that's all i have to say.

kindness
Saturday, June 13, 2009

what is kindness? hmmm, that is a good question, to me kindness is to help other and not get back anything. Some people think that WHY is it important to be kind. Actually, kindness can be done at anytime and anywhere. You don't really have to find one. When you help those who need help, maybe you will get a reward or maybe not. But when you help, you will too feel happy for doing a good deed and same goes for the other party as you've help them. For example, while walking down the streets, you saw an old lady crossing the street, carrying bags of heavy groceries. You walk over to her to offer your help. Its very simple and easy to do.

H1N1
Wednesday, June 10, 2009

So there's this current epidemic phenomenon which is the Influenza A H1N1 that is very contagious and is spreading really quickly to parts of the world. If you have heard in the news, there are 2 new cases in Malaysia and there are already some in Mexico, Japan and so on. Singapore definitely does not want a H1N1 case therefore we have to take our temperature almost everyday in school. It is one of the preventive measures that must be taken.Anyway,What is Influenza H1N1?Actually I have no idea what it is, but it is simply a flu, I think. And a deadly one. this is what I found on the net: The 2009 outbreak of Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 is an epidemic of a new strain of influenza virus identified in April 2009, commonly referred to as "swine flu." It is thought to be a mutation ("reassortment") of four known strains of influenza A virus subtype H1N1: one endemic in humans, one endemic in birds, and two endemic in pigs (swine). The source of the outbreak in humans is still unknown, but cases were first discovered in the U.S. and soon after in Mexico, which had a surge of cases, many of them fatal. So let's do our part and make Singapore disease free.

SA1
Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Hi again! Our SA1 are drawing near and I'm so nervous. I've been doing revision since the beginning of the year.
For my English, I did not pass the passing mark, my mum was very disappointed.
For maths, I did not pass too, I was 1 mark away from passing mark, my mum told me to try harder the next time.
For mother tongue, I got the highest in the class, but my mum did not appreciate.
I wish to ask Mrs Azhar, is it important to just score better for English, maths and science?
Why doesn't my parent care about my mother tongue? is it OK to failed mother tongue but not OK to fail the others subject? My mother tongue teacher gave me a cert to prove that I scored the highest in class, but my mum, wont even look at it, she just threw it aside and made me study again. I just asked her if I could go to the sports school open house, she said that i would surely not meet the target for sports school.Qi En actually was the one who asked me to go to the sports school open house, Going sports school is my dream, cant she just let me go for just this once. After that, i begin to resort to violence to my stuff. my scince had just passed.

Oral
It was Oral test yesterday, i was very nervous while walking towards my examiner.
My examiner was Mr Fong. I think I performed quite ok only.
I am going to try my best in the next oral exam, and that is when PSLE.
Let's talk about the oral.
Hmm... the picture is about a scenario at the zoo.
I said that:This picture shows the scenario at the zoo,
There is a art competition named "we love the animals" competition.
There is a boy and girl sitting near the place where the elephant walk.
There is aboy taking a stick and walking towards the peacok.
There was a elephant walking about with couple sitting on it.
The man's hand is on top of the women's hand.
Then Mr Fong started asking me questions: Can you see what is the children drawing?
Can you see the boy holding with the stick?
After I repelied him, we started the conversation.
After that i went to my mother tongue oral.
i did bad for the picture conversationbut good for the oral.
Thats all i had to say, bye

International Friendship Day
Monday, April 13, 2009

International Friendship Day.

This year theme is getting to know us- ASEAN.

International Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935. Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebrated in large number of countries. On this day people spend time with their friends and express love for them. Exchange of Friendship Day Gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition of this occasion.

Friendship Day History

There is not much literature on Friendship Day history as we celebrate today. However, there are supposedly numerous folktales and mythological legends that have come up after the celebration of the day started that shows that friends and friendship have been valued since the beginning of civilized world. As an intrinsically social creature, men love to make friends to further this process of socialization.

I don't really like the event the school had organised.
There is nothing special about the concert.

ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asia.

There are 10 countries in ASEAN. They are: Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei and Burma (Myanmar).

I don't have other friends from the ASEAN countries.

I think that the school should put some games from the ASEAN countries, some information board of ASEAN informations.

Trip to National Museum

Trip to National Museum

On this Monday, i went to the National Museum with my teacher and classmates. The museum was very grand-looking. There was even a pendulum light. It was my first visit to this new National Museum. They gave us our personal "tour guide"which was the Companion,a kind of information gadget or something like that.Hear thir opinion and even know what the people involve are saying, it is much more better than reading the description about the artefacts like normal meuseum does. As we moved on, I was trying to punch in the numbers into the companion. entering another room, on the time when the girls in Singapore were finally allowed to go to school, the companion told the story of a school girl's experience. There was a report card of the 10 year-old girl. I was quite surprised to see that they were already learning stuff such as geometry, history and all those stuff that we're suppose to learn in secondary schools... After viewing a lot more exhibits, we finally returned The Companion. This is the companion.
I think I need more time as we did not went into the event path and went to the personnel path. As we are nearing to the exit, all of my classmates were already there. Most of the exhibits there were mainly about the fall and rise of Singapore. Then we went to the Singapore Living Museum-Food,Wayang and Fashion. There were the clothes of the pastand samples of different cloths. Then in the Wayang, there was a horror malay movie and the machines for filming movies. And the Food section, there is the smells of different spices like lime and coconut etc(i am going to faint because of the lime smell)I also remembered Elizabeth Choy's story which I listened to in the war heroes exhibit. She struggled through the Japanese Occupation when her husband and herself were captured and she was tortured. Despite that, she still survived and lived to tell her inspiring story. Many admired her for her bravery and selflessness.Towards the end of the journey, we did a survey and headed back to school.Although some of us were rather noisy, I learned many things that could not be read in the textbook and met a few friendly tourists too. I'm looking forward to the next excursion! :)
